My Pilates Journey
It started one morning, the kind where you wake up with a stiff neck, sore shoulders, and a constant ache in your lower back that feels like it's just a part of you now. My corporate job had me hunched over a desk for hours, typing away, and over time, my body began to feel the consequences of that sedentary, high-stress lifestyle. I had scoliosis, a curve in my spine that had been with me since my teenage years, but I hadn't truly realized how much it was impacting me until I began to feel constant pain and discomfort every day. One day, after yet another night of tossing and turning due to back pain, I decided I had enough. I needed to make a change, not just for my body but for my mind too. That’s when I found Pilates. At first, it wasn’t easy. My body resisted. The movements felt foreign, the stretches awkward. But I stuck with it, because it didn’t just promise to alleviate the pain—it gave me hope that I could live without feeling like I was always battling my own body. The deeper I got into Pilates, the more I realized it wasn’t just a workout; it was a tool for rebuilding my body and restoring its balance. The gentle focus on breath and alignment seemed to counter everything I had been doing in my corporate world—everything that was misaligning me, physically and mentally. Over time, the pain started to lessen. My back felt stronger, my posture improved, and for the first time in ages, I felt grounded. But what really changed my life was the realization that I wanted to share this gift with others. I knew there had to be more people out there, stuck in the same cycle of corporate stress, poor posture, and pain. And so, I decided to become a Pilates teacher. I completed my certification with the same discipline I had once applied to my work deadlines. Every class I taught, I remembered what it felt like to struggle with a tight back, or to wonder if this was just how life was going to be. My goal was simple: to help people with scoliosis, pain, or desk jobs like mine learn to move their bodies with intention, focus, and care. Now, every time I step into the studio, I know I’m not just teaching movements. I’m teaching people to reframe the way they view their bodies and their lives. And every time someone tells me they feel less pain after a class, I’m reminded of the journey that brought me here, one stretch, one breath at a time.
