About the event
Snapping or clicking at the hip is a common experience during movement, particularly in exercises involving repeated hip flexion, extension, or rotation. While not every snapping hip is a problem, when clicking becomes uncomfortable, limits range of motion, or affects confidence in movement, understanding what may be contributing to it becomes important.
For Pilates and movement teachers, recognising the different types of snapping hip and understanding the mechanics behind them can help you make better exercise choices and support clients in moving with greater freedom and confidence.
What You’ll Learn
The different types of snapping hip, including internal and external and how to recognise where the snapping may be coming from.
The research behind snapping hip and what current evidence tells us about why some hips click or snap during movement.
How the hip joint naturally moves through flexion, extension, and rotation, and how these movements contribute to smooth, efficient hip function.
Practical exercises and movement strategies that may help reduce or eliminate uncomfortable snapping during Pilates and other movement practices.
How to modify common exercises when snapping occurs, rather than simply avoiding movement altogether.
How to help clients explore greater range of motion at the hip while reducing fear and improving confidence around clicking or discomfort.
Practical ways to distinguish between harmless clicking and snapping that may warrant further assessment.
What You’ll Gain
A clearer understanding of the anatomy and biomechanics behind snapping and clicking hips.
Greater confidence identifying the different presentations of snapping hip and adapting movement accordingly.
A practical toolkit of exercises and strategies you can immediately integrate into your Pilates sessions.
More confidence helping clients move freely when clicking or snapping has previously made them hesitant to use their full hip range.
A more informed approach to hip movement that moves beyond simply telling clients to avoid exercises that make their hip click.
