About the event
The diaphragm is a double-domed muscle that bridges the vital organs of the chest and abdomen, moving with every breath to support respiration, core control, and pelvic floor health. Its role in both Pilates practice and everyday movement is fundamental, making a deep understanding of healthy diaphragmatic function essential for every movement educator.
What You’ll Learn
How the diaphragm moves three-dimensionally with each breath, and how to enhance its movement for better breathing efficiency, core control, and pelvic floor tone.
The coordination between the rib cage, diaphragm, pelvis, and pelvic floor, and how this system maintains balanced intra-abdominal pressure and spinal stability.
Exercises to stretch, lengthen, and mobilise the diaphragm, improving respiratory mechanics and overall movement quality.
How the diaphragm contributes to spinal stability, and ways to train stability through the breathing system—not just the postural muscles.
Mobilisation techniques for the spine, rib cage, and sternum to create more freedom for the lungs and diaphragm to move.
An understanding of how the fascia of the lungs, heart, and abdominal organs interconnect through the diaphragm, and how to support healthy organ tone through breath cueing.
Simple, effective releases for the diaphragm to reduce tension in the lower back and pelvic floor.
What You’ll Gain
A deeper understanding of the diaphragm’s anatomy and multidimensional function, transforming how you view breathing in movement.
The ability to assess and improve breathing quality in your clients to enhance posture, stability, and performance.
A toolkit of breath-based exercises to integrate into Pilates sessions for core activation, spinal mobility, and relaxation.
Greater clarity on the relationship between breath, fascia, and organ health, allowing for more holistic cueing and programming.
A renewed appreciation for the diaphragm as an elastic, intelligent structure—one that links movement, posture, and vitality.
